Hello – My name is Samuel McKeown- but you can call me Sam! I’m 34 years of age. I have been in the hairdressing industry for 18 years now. I was born and raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland. I left school at the tender age of sweet sixteen to pursue my passion and ambition for hairdressing. I enrolled at the Belfast Institute of further and Higher education where I completed 3 years of training and achieved my Certificate 1, 2 and 3 in City and Guilds NVQ- which is the Australian equivalent of an apprenticeship.
I started a job placement at David Aumonier, an L’Oreal Professional salon in Belfast. After this, my venture was working as a qualified hairstylist at Peter Maud, the L’Oreal technical centre in Belfast. I have attained many achievements such as L’Oreal Advanced Cutting Diploma, L’Oreal Advanced Colour Clinic Diploma and been involved in L’Oreal Presentation workshops, Keraste Ambassador Course, L’Oreal Photo shoots and L’Oreal Demonstration stage shows in Ireland and the UK.I have also been part of fabulous teams for the L’Oreal End of Year Fashion shows for London Fashion week.
I decided to move to Australia in 2006 for a warmer climate and quickly adopted Melbourne as my new home to start my new endeavour in men’s hairdressing. I began work at an exclusive Men’s only Day Spa called Mens Body Works in Richmond. Here, I skilfully succeeded in all things American Crew; Hands On Clipper Course, Cutting Clinic, Retrospect Course and Alpha Salon Training. The main feat being the All American Crew Face Off Competition.
This takes me to my present triumph of working with the amazing team at Sylk Hair Boutique! Here, I endlessly practise my skills everyday with both men and women’s hairdressing. I started in 2013 and look forward to many years to come with this salon learning continuously and thriving on what I love doing.
Hello I’m Jess and I am the manager at Sylk hair boutique as well as a Senior Stylist.
I have been in the hair dressing industry for 6 years; I started my career at Fountain Gate Shopping Centre prior working at Sylk.
I attended Victorian university throughout my apprenticeship, and then qualified as a senior.
I have competed in hair competitions on many occasions but the best achievement was when I was when I was a first year apprentice and I won! It’s the most nerve racking feeling being on stage but feels amazing once finished!
I have also taken part in many courses and seminars working with Wella, Kerastase, GHD and hair extensions… just to name a few!
I enjoy learning and the best part about hairdressing is that it’s never ending! New techniques evolve constantly and we get to use this knowledge in the salon and inform our clients about it all.
I have been lucky enough to travel Europe for two months in 2012 and the USA for a month in 2013.
Traveling is by far the best decision I ever made! A few of my favourite places are Greece, Berlin and France. And yes I still have a travel bucket list a mile long!! At this point in my career, I can’t imagine doing anything else as I am very passionate and driven to achieve the best hair for my clients.
As hairdressers we get to transform and make each person feel and look the best they can… What’s not to love about that!
I’m looking forward to continuing adventures with Joe and the Sylk hairdressing family… and I am just as excited to keep meeting new clients!
Hi my name is Jaid & I have 13 years experience in the hairdressing industry having started hairdressing part time at the age of 14. Two years later I started my apprenticeship.
In my early years of hairdressing I came runner up in my region at the world skills competition. Following on from that I have worked backstage and onstage at many hair shows and competitions.
My hairdressing career has seen my work in many states in Australia as well as travelling overseas for eight months to observe new hair trends and up and coming styles.
Hey, my name is Yvonne (Von for short!) I am a Senior Stylist here at Sylk Hair Boutique. I have been interested in hair and beauty from my early teenage years and decided to make a career of it at the end of year 11 when I enrolled in a Hairdressing course for 10 months at the Australian College of Hair Design and Beauty, After I had completed my time there I decided I would like to start an apprenticeship which I did!
During my apprenticeship, I attended Victoria University then near the end of it I attended Francapelli Academy until I graduated. I have now been hairdressing for 5 years and love every minute of it.
I enjoy all aspects of hairdressing!
I have done some work for Melbourne Fashion Week and I attend many courses on a regular basis to expand my knowledge and keep up with all new hair trends and styles.
I Hope I get to see you soon!
Hello, my name is Michelle!
I work weekends at Sylk Hair Boutique on reception as well as hair.
I have been hairdressing for 7 years starting my apprenticeship at Chadstone Shopping Centre, then moving to complete it in Mount Waverley.
I have always had a vast passion for hairdressing from a young age (my Barbie’s and sisters were forced to be my models!).
I love the way cutting can change a person’s spirit in an instant. The first thing people see besides a person’s eyes is their hair! So it must look good!
I am currently completing my Diploma in Beauty Therapy at National Academy of Beauty and I love and enjoy it.
I believe hair and beauty go hand in hand to make someone feel better not only about themselves but about the day! I love to smile so I always thrive when I can make others do the same. Hairdressing is a passion.
It is an art; and I am happy to be part of the industry.

I look forward to what the future will bring within the Sylk Hair team!
My name is Andy!
I am originally from North London but moved to Melbourne at the beginning of 2015, after travelling around Thailand and Australia for 10 weeks.
I have been hairdressing for eight years after finishing my apprenticeship in London and working my way up to management.
As a senior stylist, I have completed many courses and qualifications including Wella advanced colouring, Brazilian blow-waves, Keratin straightening treatments and Session styling hair-ups.
A highlight in my career so far was participating in London Fashion week in 2013, where I was part of creating a number of different catwalk looks.
I enjoy all aspects of hairdressing but my favourites are hair extensions and wedding up-dos!
In my spare time, I enjoy gymnastics, diving and drinking Prosecco!
I am looking forward to meeting lots of Melbournians and making new friends!
Come and see me at Sylk and say Hi!
